Is Haggle.com a Scam? | Happy.fm

Is Haggle.com a scam or a legitimate business?

Is Haggle.com a scam? From what I can tell, the penny bid business, Haggle.com, which caused such controversy, has disappeared from the face of the Internet. A listing on the unfortunately named search tool ?Dogpile? reveals nothing is happening. So was Haggle.com a scam operation? Or was Haggle.com a legitimate business?

There?s two ways of answering that. In every technical sense, Haggle.com was indeed a regular online auction business. Like many others on the Web promoting via pop ups and border ads that declare you can buy an SLR camera for $5 or a brand new bed for ten, Haggle.com promoted unbelievably cheap goods to Americans via an online penny auction concept. The facility was simple. Register, then place a bid and you?re on your way to buying at super cheap prices. Except, there was more to this process than met the eye ? at least according to some disgruntled customers. Haggle.com expected prospective bidders to pay an upfront fee before bidding. And then there were those alarming charges. If you think such shopping schemes seem too good to be true, there are plenty of disaffected participants who would agree with you.? Haggle.com?s online complaints ranged from suspicions about false bidding, inordinate time being wasted, paying outrageous fees, and frustration over continually losing bids against supposed ?bid professionals.?

To me, sites that declare remarkable bargains like diamond rings for a buck or two, or swank laptops for the price of a tin of boot polish are using the oldest trick in the book. Get people?s desire up to a frenzy and you cloud their judgement. Such scam like approaches are legion and you don?t need to go online to find them. Asking, ?Is Haggle.com a scam?? reflects our growing awareness that any website claiming to offer more than they can deliver deserves suspicion. We should all maintain a healthy level of doubt about Internet dealings, simply because it?s too easy to be defrauded by faceless men hiding behind fancy facades and grandiose claims. Like the Nigerian 419 fraud scam letter database, and a host of other nefarious schemes, predators, shysters, and legal but unprincipled firms, they?re all out there, waiting to prey on well-intentioned people.

So in this case, the question, ?Is Haggle.com a scam?? seems to be somewhat academic. Haggle.com appears to have gone. But don?t fret. There are dozens of others only too willing to jump in where they left off to bring you the bargain of the century. Just remember to hold on tight to your purse!
