Alternative Health Information Blog: Effective Ringworm Control ...

The cause of ringworm is not a worm but some species of fungi. It is only called by that name because of the characteristic ring-shaped red skin rash when the skin is infected. The real causes of this skin disease are dermatophytes, a group of fungus. It is very contagious and you can get it by just having a direct contact or by touching infected persons, animals and objects. Since children have closer contact with each other, they are more prone to ringworm infection.

Dermatophytes are a group of fungi that thrives on the top layer of our skin and hair. They grow best in moist and warm places like locker rooms, swimming pools and our skin folds. There are different types of ringworms such as ringworm of the foot, ringworm of the body, ringworm of the nails and ringworm of the scalp.

Ringworm is usually treated by using over-the-counter creams and medications. Creams can be used as long as it is needed. If the condition does not improve, the patient is advised to get the help of a doctor. Usually, drugs and pills are prescribed by the doctor to stop the infection. When there are skin break outs, cracks and blisters, antibiotics are prescribed to prevent bacterial infection.

However, the long-term use of antibiotics and drugs are detrimental to our health because of their attendant side effects. Additionally, they are not really effective in stopping the growth of the fungi. There is a more effective alternative that can control fungi growth, without the possibilities of experiencing adverse side effects.

The better alternative is oregano oil. It is an all natural product that is proven to be effective in killing all types of pathogens, but has no known side effects. The source of oregano oil is the wild plant Origanum vulgare that is grown and harvested in the mountaintops of Greece, Turkey and Portugal. This wild plant has a very long medicinal history where it was used for treating common illnesses like colds, coughs, stomach troubles and skin diseases.

Oregano oil has this powerful antimicrobial property because it contains considerable amounts of phytochemicals, flavonoids and phenols. Hundreds of studies and experiments around the world have proven that it can really kill bacteria, parasites, viruses and fungi, including dermatophytes which are the major cause of ringworm.

You can easily control ringworm by taking it internally and using it as a topical treatment. Place 2 to 3 drops of this oil under your tongue and let it stay there for two minutes before swallowing. Or you can mix the drops with water or juice and drink it. As a topical treatment, dilute 1 part of oregano oil with 5 parts of virgin olive oil. Get a cotton ball and dip it into this mixture and apply the cotton ball to the affected skin part. Repeat this two times a day until the ringworm is gone. Use oregano oil to treat ringworm.
