There are a few ways to design a tablet for gamers. You could take the Archos Gamepad approach and add physical buttons to the side of a decent, but unspectacular Android tablet and sell it for a reasonably low price. Or you could take the guts of a Windows gaming computer, cram them into a tablet-sized device, and charge a premium price.
It looks like Razer?s taking the latter approach -- after asking people what?they want to see in a gaming tablet.
Razer has been throwing about the idea of a gaming tablet for a little while, and has been asking potential customers to help determine the specs for a ?Project Fiona? tablet capable of playing heavy-duty Windows games.
In a Facebook post, Razer has posted the results:
- Intel Core i5 or Core i7 processor
- Discrete?graphics?with a mid-level GPU (for playing serious games with graphics at the medium settings)
- Could be up to twice as thick or heavy as an iPad
- Customers are reportedly willing to pay $1299 to $1499
While the non-hardcore gamer in me was initially skeptical of that last bullet point, the comments on the Facebook post seem to suggest that there are plenty of folks that seem very interested in the device.
Unfortunately, Razer hasn?t shared any battery life estimates yet -- I imagine a tablet with those specs will use a lot more power than a Microsoft Surface or an iPad. But if it could be up to 0.8 inches thick and weigh nearly 3 pounds, there could be room for a pretty heavy duty battery.
There?s no word on when the Project Fiona tablet will ship... or even what it will be called when it does.
