The Number One Mistake People Make in Public Speaking

In public speaking, the more you prepare, the worse you do.

Have you ever felt like this? I know I sure have.

Don?t get me wrong, preparation is important. But, much of your success depends on ?how? you prepare.

Let me explain.

People often have the wrong focus when preparing their speeches. They over their purpose. Consequently, this causes them to ?over prepare. ?

In this case, the more you prepare, the worse you will probably do.

On the other hand, if you know your subject intimately or if you?ve spoken about it many times over, you may need very little preparation at all. All you would need to do is remind yourself of the two or three main points you want to make along the way.

Personally, I enjoy speeches when I can tell the speaker is following an outline while using a bit of ?impromptu? language.

You see over-preparation shows a lack of confidence and competence.

You either don?t know your subject well enough or you don?t feel confident enough to speak in public.

If you?re lacking knowledge, research is the key.

If you?re lacking confidence, EXPOSURE is the key.

Put yourself in the spotlight over and over again ? trusting in your natural ability to speak. I guarantee you if you do it enough, you?ll start to improve.

If you want to take this seriously, I recommend you solicit opportunities to speak in public.

A great way to start is to volunteer to conduct training workshops at your job. Or, join Toastmasters ? an organization created for the purpose of helping people just like you improve their public speaking skills. The more you do this, the better you?ll become.

I promise.

Any way you decide, keep getting in front of others to deliver your value.

In no time at all you?ll gain confidence and start to respect the natural communicator within you.

If overcoming speaking anxiety is difficult for you, you need a proven system that has worked for thousands of people.

Discover the proven shortcuts to learn public speaking.
