Capture all the action of the first rodeo of the year.
Around 200 high school student athletes from across the state participate in the first rodeo in Mandan this weekend.
Devon Burghart is hoping he qualified for state today with his saddle bronc ride.
But he says either way, the adrenaline rush is why he competes.
(Devon Burghart/Mandan Senior) "It's still going in me, before I started riding, like right before, until about now." (Ellen Huber/Mandan High School Rodeo Committee) "I think for a lot of these contestants competing in the sport of rodeo, the speed, the adrenaline rush that comes with competing on roughstock, fast-paced barrel run, that's really why they do it, truly a natural high."
Organizer say horse-related sports are becoming more popular than ever right now... Weston started bull-riding when he was just 8-years-old.
Along with four or five concussions... he's been on the injury list alot, but keeps getting back up.
(Weston Hartman/Mandan) "I broke a rib and punctured a lung this winter in Rapid City at a bull-riding, was in the hospital, I've had quite a bit of injuries, it's what I love so I keep getting back on and hoping for the best." watch the video | save this article / add to your favorites list
